Mono Stereo Review

Dear Fellow Audiophiles,

Mono & Stereo’s Richard Weiner reviewed a full ANTICABLES loom in his reference system and declared them “the Goldilocks cables” because our Level 5 Speaker WiresLevel 6.2 RCA ICsand Level 3 Power Cords did everything “just right”.

About the most difficult sonic attribute to achieve with cabling is to provide very high resolution and detail, while keeping the music’s rich body. Typically warmth comes without resolution, and detail comes with no meat on its bones. Richard found that our ANTICABLES allows you to actually can have your cake and eat it too. ANTICABLES provides very high-resolution detail which allows you to not only to hear what each instrument sound like, but also the tactical information that conveys the musician playing the instrument, and does so while keeping the music full-bodied without any forwardness, brightness, or leanness.

Richard went on to say…

“ANTICABLES is both the most musically satisfying and the most sonically correct wire I’ve encountered.  It balances the sound envelope in a new way, one which is more faithful to the signal than any other I’ve encountered. Combining the ANTICABLES speaker wires, interconnects and power cords made my systems perform better than they have in twenty years.”

I know Richard was serious about this statement since he has now purchased the full ANTICABLES loom for his system.

“By patiently refining his designs, Paul Speltz has managed to combine the features we have all been seeking in our wires. Think of the rounded fullness of tube amplification matched with the controlled precision of solid state or the virtues of vented speaker enclosures combined with those of sealed boxes, and you have a sense of what ANTICABLES provide.  Add to these performance virtues the physical flexibility of the wires – no stiff garden hoses here, and the– by current standards – modest prices, and you have a line of irresistible products.”

“The difference with ANTICABLES lies in the sense of correct tone, of detail balanced with a musicality that made me nod: this is how the performances should sound.”

“Why has it taken until now to recover this natural perspective?”

Here are a few more excerpts from the review:

“My own comment from that first session is succinct: “Generous.”  Over the months of listening, I expanded that to “warmth without losing incisiveness,” and “precise but still harmonically rich.”  If you can imagine the clarity and speed of silver cable coupled with the relaxed tonality of copper, you will have a fair sense of what ANTICABLES  can do.  Now bring the harmonic rightness a bit further.  That is what gold in proper amounts brings to the mixture.”

“I tried Level 5 (Speaker Wires), switched to another multi-strand pure silver cable, a couple of high-purity copper wires – all of them well-known and all of them good performers – and returned to the ANTICABLES for their sense of relaxed and revealing sound.  ANTICABLES take somewhere around 150 hours to burn in.  My notes from the first couple of months reflect superior decay almost from the first hour, with good attack that became excellent over time.  This is the only cable product I have heard which offers this balance of sound.”

“Harry Pearson at The Absolute Sound introduced the concept of “continuousness,” the desirable property of music flowing naturally.  (At least, that was my interpretation of the concept.)  My experience with all of the ANTICABLES products is that they possess this characteristic: music doesn’t get bunched into discrete quanta.  The triumph of ANTICABLES is that it maintains continuousness while also preserving the delicate “space between the notes.”

“If I’ve managed to convey the sound of ANTICABLES loudspeaker cables, then you know what the Level 6.2 ABSOLUTE Signature interconnects sound like.  They’re smooth and revealing at the same time.”

With the Level 3 Power Cords plugged directly into the wall outlet Richard found…

“…the difference was pronounced: the very mild softening I’ve grown accustomed to was replaced by a more detailed, articulate sound that brought the music much closer to real life without ever stepping into hyper-etched rendition.”

“With a full loom of ANTICABLES wire in place, I ran through some favorites recordings.” “…I played the “Archduke” trio with Istomin, Stern and Rose (Sony  64513). Over the years, I have listened to this performance on vinyl, compact disc, and watched it on DVD. With ANTICABLES I experienced a greater sense of vitality, the sense of being present in the recording studio.”

“There’s a saying among engineers: anyone can design a great product for a million dollars, but only a genius can design one for a thousand bucks. In Paul Speltz, I believe that we have found an engineer who can provide top-level sound at an accessible price.”

ANTICABLES now a Premier Dealer for Alta Audio

alta1I am proud to announce that ANTICABLES has just become a Premier Dealer for New York based Alta Audio and the first to have a pair of their new $32,000 Titanium Hestia speakers for audiophiles to audition (by appointment only).

Listening to the Titaniums in the Alta / Krell / ANTICABLES listening room at the NY Audio Show for three days cause a paradigm shift for me. When I returned home to Minnesota, I started working with Michael Levy of Alta Audio to be able to offer these fine speakers to our customers. This goal was achieved and the Midwest’s only demo pair of Titanium Hestia speakers is now available for audition.

alta2There are three very common problems that audiophiles struggle with in their systems: Not having enough bottom end to give the music a solid foundation to ride on, not being able to get adequate 3D imaging & depth in the soundstage, and getting listening fatigue, which has them turning the music down or off all together. Any audiophile that struggles with any of these issues, I think will enjoy these speakers.

Anyone that is interested in hearing the Hestia Titaniums for themselves, and are willing to hike, drive, or fly to the St. Paul side of the Twin Cities, should contact me directly to set up a listening session (and special discount pricing): paul@anticables.com

Announcing NEW Level 2.1 & Level 3.1 Speaker Wires and Jumpers

ANTICABLES would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy new year, and with the new year comes a new version our longest loved product line:

Level 2 and Level 3 Speaker Wires and Jumpers have been improved and are now called Level 2.1 and Level 3.1 Speaker Wires and Jumpers.

To help you celebrate the new year, through the month of January you can buy the new speaker wire and jumpers before the price increases on February 1.

Here is how the improvement came about.

Material Scientist Dr. Douglas StaufferAfter observing some batch-to-batch sonic inconsistencies with our #12 gauge wire, and accumulating reels of wire I was not willing to use in product, I launched a research project to find the assignable cause of the inconsistency.  Material Scientist Dr. Douglas Stauffer and I worked together for 6 months and successfully determined the variable causing the batch-to-batch sonic inconsistencies.  Dr. Stauffer called the variable “Dislocation Density”.

In material science, “dislocation” is a crystallographic defect, or irregularity, within a crystal structure. So “dislocation density” is simply the measure of the number of dislocations in a unit volume of the crystalline material.  Now knowing the variable, I could not-only control the variable, but it enabled us to push that variable as far as possible in the direction needed for even better sound. The goal in our case was to reduce the dislocation density as much as possible.

Dr. Stauffer helped me work with the US facility that draws our high purity oxygen-free copper wire to our specifications, to change the wire drawing process to achieve the lowest dislocation density possible. The new process was achieved and the sonic outcome was well beyond what was expected. This new #12 gauge Reduced Dislocation Density (RDD) wire is so good sounding that a new pair of Level 2.1 Speaker Wires sounds better than a fully run-in pair of the previous Level 3 Speaker Wires. Yes, Level 2.1 actually leapfrogged the more expensive Level 3 in these ways: a sense of increased volume, midrange sounds more real, less grain noise, the highs are much smoother (like driving on a newly blacktopped road), more bass and better bass articulation, more exciting and involving.

Even though the new RDD™ wire will cause an upcoming price increase, since the new better sounding Level 2.1 will still cost significantly less that the old Level 3 Speaker Wires, this is yet another example of how ANTICABLES continually strives to offer better sounding products at lower prices.

With two of the new RDD wires (Level 2.1) out performing four of the old wires (Level 3), the next question is what would four of the new RDD wires bring to the table? Doubling-up the new wire still proved quite beneficial, and will be available as Level 3.1, which when compared to the new Level 2.1 provides: an even greater sense of increased volume, livelier, more harmonic structure through the midrange, an increased clarity of downward dynamics (hear deeper into the recording), instruments sounding more presence in space, and additional bass weight, body and definition.

If you recently purchased a pair of our speaker wires, I have extraordinary news for you. The above research project ran from January to July of last year and we have been making and shipping all speaker wires orders since Aug 1st with the new Reduced Dislocation Density (RDD) wire.  So, if you placed your order as far back as Aug 1st, you already got the sweetheart deal of getting the new RDD wire at the old price.

If you are unsure if you bought your speaker wires before or after Aug 1st, just look at the wires as they come up to the speakers. If there is a piece of red shrink tubing where the wires do a “Y” split, then you have the new RDD wire, and your Level 2 is actually Level 2.1, or your Level 3 is actually Level 3.1.  Enjoy!

If you are considering a new set of speaker wires and/or jumpers, order at anticables.com now through January 31 before the price increases.

Level 2.1 Jumpers
Current Price: $30/four  // New Price (Feb 1): $35/four

Level 3.1 Jumpers

Just Released: Level 5 Signature Series Speaker Wires

starcomponent-newWe are proud to announce that our newly released Level 5 Signature Speaker Wires have already won Audiophilia’s Star Component Award, and we invite you to stop in and hear why, in room 1104 at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest this weekend (October 7-9).

Martin Appel of Audiophilia.com stated their “detail, resolution and transparency were off the charts”, and that they have a “life-like realism that was truly astonishing“.

We accomplished this by rolling our excellent ACElectrum™ Silver/Gold alloy metallurgy, proven in our upper level interconnects, into a much larger gauge wire to handle the current demands of speakers.

The outcome was so sonically successful, Martin Appel said they “got the musical timbres of instruments as correctly as I’ve ever heard“.

5speakerwires-awardThese new Level 5 Signature Speaker Wires are so good at resolution and dynamics that he went on to say, “This recording has massive dynamic swings from the quietest passages to full orchestral/choral crescendos and the 5 Signatures handled the performance without congestion, blurring or smearing.  In other words, you get all the music, all the time“.

Mr Appel boldly closes his review by flat out stating, “If problems occur with the sound, it’s coming from other pieces in your audio chain, not these speaker wires.

You can read the entire review HERE.

…and you can hear them in room 1104 at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest October 7th – 9th.

We are also sharing a lobby booth with Spatial Audio and Red Dragon Audio,  so be sure to stop in to say hello.

CORE DESIGN PRINCIPLES
The ANTICABLES Level 6.2 ABSOLUTE Signature Digital RCA 75 Ohm Interconnect use the newest Keith Louis Eichmann’s Absolute-Harmony RCA Plugs, which we believe are the best sounding RCA plugs in the world. These RCA plugs are so much better then Mr. Eichmann’s PURE-Harmony plugs, we were inspired to push our technology to the maximum to match their musical ability.

NEW CABLE TOPOLOGIES
Instead of using the red coated elongated coil copper wire to serve as both the returning ground wire and the shield wire (as with our other digital cable designs), these RCA Digital Interconnect uses two additional ACElectrum™ Silver/Gold Alloy wires as the return signal path. The three signal carrying wires are then woven in our Delineated Weave™ configuration.

In addition, the woven signal wires are protected by our new DoubleBack™ shielding configuration. The red colored elongated coil copper wire serves only as the shield wire. It provides twice as many shielding loops per inch then normal, and sinks the noise back to the sourcing component’s ground, instead of sending it forward towards the input of the receiving component.

MUSICALLY
This configuration provides an even greater picture of each instrument in the recording, and the harmonic beauty of the music. There is better focus and less digital artifacts.
